The Pashley Diamond Jubilee Picnic Ride

So I didn't secure a place on this years Tweed Run, again... Am I upset, crying, having a tantrum, yes but upon learning that Pashley are having a Diamond Jubilee picnic ride, I'm feeling much better!

There Diamond Jubilee Picnic Ride is on the 3rd of June 2012. There will be lots of fine tea and cakes and a cycle ride through historic Stratford-upon-Avon and the lovely Warwickshire countryside. More information will be available soon…watch this space!

Now, which Pashley do I ride...

Selina Lake: Homespun Style Market - Friday 13th April

On the last day of the Easter holiday, I will be here...

Selina Lake: Homespun Style Market - Friday 13th April
The Lovely Selina Lake will be signing copies of her new book 'Homespun Style'.

There will also be fellow crafters, goodie bags sponsored by Mollie Makes Magazine and some great stalls including Folly and Glee who make the most amazing vintage inspired lampshades. FYI, i should warn you, there will also be tea and cake, Personally, I will only be having one, most definitely, 1 cake is my limit. In fact, perhaps I ought to have clearer boundaries, you will understand why if you've ever seen my bounty at the summer fair (in my defence, all the cakes are 20p, it'd be rude not to...) I shall have only one cupcake. There I've said it, it is written and so it shall be! That said, now I really can't wait!

Victoria Pendleton for Halfords

The stunning Victoria Pendleton has launched her own range of bikes for
Halfords, and decided to go with the vintage vibe.

Who can blame her, bicycle or not, Victoria does vintage so, so well.

Victoria doing the 'Tiffany' for Hovis in a campaign to encourage working mum's to eat breakfast.

Of all the bikes, this model, the baby blue 'Somerby' roadster is my favourite, perfect for shopping and at £279 it's a bit of a bargain!

The range is available now from Halfords.

Christina Hamilton LCF MA Collection - Bike Bags with a difference...

I think these saddle bags are really cute and very stylish. I love the little seat on the first one. Christina Hamilton chose to use Saddlery as the basis of her design and technical process for her MA final project. Christina is a trained saddler and felt there was much more that could be done with the techniques used in the Saddlery. She started to think of the new ways that people carry bags and how they travel. She came to the conclusion that the collection should be able to be fitted onto the bicycle and be able to be used off the bicycles.

The reason why I choose to keep the artifacts resembling saddles, was for the over all concept of the “Displacement of the Saddle” the displacement of the saddle has a number of meanings:
- Displacement. –From saddlery as function and craft to artefact.
- Saddlery, which has beautiful form and function with equisetic craftsmanship to a fashion artefact. A fashion artefact that acknowledges saddlery traditions of being Aesthetic pleasing but perform its function.
- The idea of Displacement and a repositioning of saddlery was also part of the design process where 2d flat images of the saddle and their component parts were displaced and reorganised to create the artefact.
- The bicycle also displaced the horse, and hence the fashion artefact displaces the saddle.
- I propose that in today’s society the bicycle has replaced the horse.
- Automotive transport is also being replace and people are returning to the bicycle, as the cost of petrol continually increases and commuters choose bicycles to travel around London
Much as the traveller of the past needed a good saddle, today’s commuter needs to transport their belonging but then be able to walk into the boardroom in style with possessions that reflect their status.

Alice in Wonderland via Portobello Road

Those clever folk over at Bikeminded have come up with another great idea. This summer they have organised some great bike rides. There's a Film Tour, a Magical Musical Mystery Tour the one i've booked a ticket for, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

From 18th – 22nd of July, RBKC and InTRANSIT are hosting Bikeminded's Summer tour of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, in association with Exquisite Folly Theatre. We will be exploring the beautiful nooks and crannies of Kensington and Chelsea whilst following Alice on bicycles, in a tour that uses storytelling and puppetry to create a most unusual, immersive and interactive show. They've warned us to forget what we think we know about Alice, this is Wonderland with a darker twist. This event is suitable for adults and children over 11 so if you're free and local come on down and join me. If music or film is more your thing check out Bikeminded and get booking!

While I'm on the ride I think I'll wear one of these lovely t-shirts I found on etsy (I so love etsy, there's nothing you can't find on there)...
